We took a tour during our visit to New York, as they are relatively close, 4 hours away (8 hours from the road). It’s a little beating, since you’re longer on a trip than in town, but it was worth it.
But the points we show can be done by walking (10 kilometers, 2 hours and 4 hours), you can also do subway trips. Then I show you photos of the different points next to the corresponding metro stop where they are located.
The monuments have been divided by blocks, on the one hand, these two are together:
- Arlington National Cemetery: open from 8 AM to 5 PM.Arlington National Cemetery > Visit (arlingtoncemetery .mil). It commemorates the death of more than 400,000 military personnel from various wars. In addition, important personalities are buried there, as former presidents of the country. Arlington Cemetery Metro Station (blue line). The next stop of our route is 10 minutes’ walk.
- U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial: open from 6 AM to midnight (12 AM).US Marine Corps War Memorial – George Washington Memorial Parkway (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov). Arlington Cemetery Metro Station (blue line). In half an hour walk you can reach the monument to Lincoln.
On the other hand, the rest of our one-day route is within the same park, although it is a very large green area.
- Monument to Abraham Lincoln: always open.Operating Houses & Seasons – Lincoln Memorial (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov). Lincoln Memorial Metro Station (blue line).
- Monument to Washington (Obelisco): It is in the park, you can see it for free but you can also go up to it to enjoy the view.Fees & Pass – Washington Monument (U.S. National Park Service) (nps.gov). Smithsonian Metro Station (blue line).
- Monument to the Vietnam War (The Three Servicemen Statue): It is located between Lincoln’s monument and the Obelisk.
- Capitol: Federal Center SW Metro Station (green line).
- White House: Federal Center SW Metro Station (green line).
- Museums Constitution Avenue: on this avenue you can see important museums, all of them for free. For example, in the National Art Gallery you can find pictures of Van Gogh.
