Origin of Vienne
Vienne is a charming city located in the region of Auvernia-Rhódano-Alpes, just 30 kilometres south of Lyon. Known for its rich Roman and medieval heritage, Vienne is an essential destination for lovers of history and culture.
Vienne has a story that dates back to the Roman era. Previously known as “Vienna Allobrogum,” the city was an important commercial and religious center of the Roman Empire. The Roman and medieval monuments intertwine in the streets of Vienne, offering visitors a journey through time.

- Temple of Augusto and Livia: An impressive Roman temple built in the 1st century BC
- Roman Theatre: One of the largest Roman theatres in France, which even today hosts cultural events.
- Cathedral of Saint- Maurice: A Gothic cathedral with a façade dating back to the 12th century.
- Notre Dame de Pipet: A church located on the top of a hill, offers stunning panoramic views of the city and the Rhone Valley. Built in the 19th century, it is a place of pilgrimage and a perfect place to enjoy a quiet walk.
- Church of Saint- Pierre: One of the oldest churches in France, founded in the 6th century Today it houses the Archaeological Museum of Vienne, which exhibits a collection of Roman and medieval artifacts.
- Galo-Romano Museum of Saint-Romain-en-Gal: Located on the other side of the river, this museum offers a vision of Roman life.

How to get to Vienne
Vienne is only a 30-minute drive from Lyon. You can also arrive by train from Lyon-Perrache Station in about 20 minutes. The city is accessible and easy to walk.
