Description and photos

First, comment that the only official tourism website in the city of Córdoba is:What to visit and what to see. Here is absolutely everything, monuments, schedules (at 2024, these areWEB OCTOBER 2024.docx) and activities to be undertaken. In this publication, I will try to show what is essential to be done in two days, but it is very important that you consider the schedule that I have linked as the schedule depends on the day of the week and the holidays. The sites I recommend to visit in two days are:

  • Cathedral Mosque: I recommend you start your visit to the city with one of the most characteristic and impressive monuments of the city, the Cathedral Mosque. It is called this because it is a Cathedral built within what was the Muslim Mosque. You can see elements of both religions in this building, both outside and inside:

  • Alcazar of the Christian Kings

Inside the building you can see beautiful mosaics and its structure, but the most beautiful are its gardens:

Inside the garden we can see the statue commemorating the reception of Columbus by the Catholic Kings:

  • Roman bridge: beautiful bridge of Roman times that has an arch like entrance to the city and precious buildings around it. The view on the other side of the bridge is perhaps the best known in the city of Córdoba next to the red-white arches of the mosque:

  • Tower of the Calahorra: tower that had a defensive function in ancient times, is next to the Roman bridge that is outside the historical centre. You can go up, you can have exhibitions inside but people usually go up to see their views, although they are similar to those in front of the Roman bridge:
  • Wall:: the city retains a considerable part of the walled enclosure:
  • Jewish: like all Jewish Quarters, it is characterized by its narrow streets:

In addition, the surrounding streets show us beautiful images like the statue of the Grandfather and the Child:

  • Sinagogue: Cordoba is one of the few cities in Spain that today retains its synagogue. The inside reliefs are very nice:
  • Patios calle San Basilio: beautiful courtyards filled with flowers. Look at the schedule, because they have different hours depending on the time of year. The best time to visit them is at the festival of the Patios, which takes place in May and is when the most beautiful and flourishing are the patios. These photos were taken a rainy day in October:

  • Medina Azahara: a city that commanded the construction of the Caliph Abderman III to demonstrate its power and greatness of its reign.

  • Viana PalaceIn this palace you can see several beautiful gardens and beautiful mosaics on the ground:

  • Palacio de la Merced
  • Extra if you come or go by train: Roman Mausoleum (they are near the station)

In addition, there are squares such as the Tendillas that are beautiful but that are somewhat further away from the center:

Organization by day

  • Day 1: see the central area: Cathedral Mosque, Alcazar of the Christian Kings, Jewish, Sinagogue, Patios Calle San Basilio.
  • Day 2: Medina Azahara and Viana Palace

You can also see close if you are longer the Castle of Almodóvar.
