Context of the Safety Atalaya

What can you expect from the Safety Atalaya?
- Millennium History: Built at the beginning of the 10th century during the Abd-al-Rahman III caliphate, this 18-meter-high circular plant tower was part of a defensive system at the central border of the caliphate.
- Panoramic view: Located at the highest point of a hill at 623 meters of altitude, it offers an impressive view of the Tajo basin, the Toledo Mountains and the Sierra de Gredos.
- Historical Heritage: Protected under the generic Declaration of the Decree of 22 April 1949 and Act No. 16 / 1985 on the Spanish Historical Heritage, the atalaya is a testimony to the Islamic military architecture.
- Communication with Other Atalayas: The atalayas were visually connected with other nearby towers by visual signals (mirrors, smoke and fires) and acoustic, facilitating the transmission of instant messages between fortifications. From the Atalaya de Segurilla, the Atalaya de Gamonal is seen on the right hand side. With it, citizens were communicating in the past in the event of danger.
